 Kilt pleating

If possible, please have someone else measure you. This will help make sure that the measuring device doesn't move while you bend over to see what it reads.
Also, please let me know what the total kilt length should be from the top to the bottom- this is from the waist around your navel to the middle of your kneecap which includes the measurement in number 3 plus the rise for the belt.

To help illustrate the difference between pleating to the stripe or to the sett, I've taken pictures of lots of different varieties to show you what can be done with the pleating. In most instances, pleating to the sett is the most common, but pleating to the stripe is the way the military does it.

The first examples are from a MacLeod weathered tartan:

Pleated to the red stripe

Pleated to the sett

Pleated to both stripes

The next is a Royal Stewart tartan

pleated to the sett

Pleated to the stripe

And finally a Wallace tartan

Pleated to the sett

Pleated to the black stripe

Pleated to the yellow stripe
